A season in the 3 Valleys

    Accueil 3 Vallées ski area

The reputation of the 3 Valleys is second to none and reaches far beyond the borders of France! Every year, the largest ski area in the world welcomes skiers from all over Europe and far beyond, who come to enjoy this magical winter playground. Everyone knows that snow is guaranteed for 5 months. Snow, which owing to the altitude is abundant and largely natural. It is then perfectly shaped and groomed by the very best specialists for the crispest of sensations under your edges.

Between the beginning of December and the end of April, 5 months of guaranteed skiing on snow of incomparable quality…

The 3 Valleys are now renowned internationally. The immensity of the ski area is one of the main reasons for this. The figures speak for themselves: as the crow flies, 20 km separate Courchevel and Orelle; there are 600 km of slopes stretching between the two resorts, that is to say more than 1,500 hectares to ski on! By way of comparison, the 3 Valleys cover an area larger than that of the 5 largest ski areas in the United States combined… In fact, the number of open linked slopes is quite simply the largest in Europe. Furthermore unlike most areas, the links between the different resorts do not require you to descend to the valley floor; instead you ski freely over the peaks and ridges, via mountain passes at an altitude of more than 2,000m, all of which offer exceptional panoramic views. This is an area that will satisfy even the most insatiable and demanding of winter sports enthusiasts!

Another major advantage of the 3 Valleys is its exceptional snow cover. The altitude and the topography of the area favour abundant natural snow. The lowest point of the domain is at an altitude of 1,300 m, the highest point is at 3,230 m, and the vast majority of the slopes are above 1,800 m. In addition to this natural advantage, if there is a shortage of snow, the 3 Valleys can rely on the production capacity of 2,300 snow cannons, spread over the entire area (this snow is made up solely of water and air). Finally, to guarantee the best possible quality of skiing at all times, a large number of snow groomers and seasoned professionals work every night to offer you the snow of your dreams…

Why ski in the 3 Valleys?

    1. All weather fun: the extent of the area, which covers different altitudes and offers a wide variety of environments, allows you to ski and board in optimal conditions whatever the weather. In case of fog or snow, the lower part of the area, with its abundance of conifers, protects skiers from bad weather. The upper part of the domain, with its peaks and glaciers offers maximum sunshine on sunny days and often allows you to rise above the sea of clouds…
    2. Fun for every level: whether you’re a beginner or an expert skier, the incredible diversity of the slopes will satisfy your desires. With half of the area covered by green and blue runs, and the other half by red and black runs, the balance is perfect between challenge and accessibility. From the beginners’ area to the sensations of the Xperience vertical, from gentle slopes to off-piste itineraries, the area is all yours… and so are the panoramas!
    3. The best of off-piste: in addition to an enchanting ski area, the qualified instructors and mountain guides will accompany you for off-piste experiences. Take advantage of their experience and their expert knowledge of these wild and preserved areas to discover hidden itineraries and other “secret spots” in safety…
    4. A thousand different settings: in a single day, take advantage of the widely diverse atmospheres of the different sectors: from Courchevel, where the key words are luxury and indulgence, discover the playful world of the Méribel Altiport while skiing between the fir trees, or immerse yourself in a wilder environment of Mont Vallon. If the traditional “high altitude village” atmosphere appeals to you, then Saint-Martin-de-Belleville will enchant you. And if you are in the mood for a party, then the Folie Douce in Val Thorens is just waiting for you…
    5. Multiple passes between valleys: no less than 11 passes allow you to switch from one resort to another, and all of them have become emblematic sites within the domain: from Méribel, cross to Courchevel via the summit of La Saulire (2,738 m) or the pass of La Loze (2,304 m); ski in Les Menuires from the summit of Tougnète (2,434 m) or in Saint-Martin-de-Belleville by taking the Roc de Fer (2,290 m). Each one of these points offers an exceptional panorama to delight you, vistas which have justifiably added to the unassailable reputation of the 3 Valleys.
    6. For the kids delight: for unforgettable family ski days, the 3 Valleys ski pass gives you access to numerous areas and slopes designed for the youngest. In Méribel-Mottaret, discover the Yeti Park and the Open Park; in Les Menuires, enjoy the Friendly Natural Park and in Courchevel, the Western Ski Park and Fun Park… In Méribel, try the Animal and Inuit slopes, very popular with children. To finish in style or to discover other sensations, treat yourself to a skating session in Courchevel or in Méribel, hurtle down the sledging runs which one can find all over the 3 Valleys, or try ice diving and ice-driving in Val Thorens…
