The Alpine Skiing World Championships in Courchevel and Méribel

    The event

A rare and intensely exciting event

This is the biggest event in the world of skiing after the Olympic Games. It takes place every two years on ‘odd’ years and has only been held in France three times: in Chamonix in 1937 and 1962 and in Val d'Isère in 2009.

    Titles and medals

Over two weeks, the World Championships bring together male and female alpine skiers from all disciplines.

It is a different competition from the World Cup, a circuit of more than twenty separate stages for men and women, which each year awards the titles of World Cup winner by discipline and overall winner.

The ski area during the World Championships

Don't worry, neither the ski area nor your skiing enjoyment will be impacted during this period, 99% of the 3 Vallées ski area will remain open:

    • In Courchevel, only two runs will be closed: Eclipse and Granges
    • In Méribel, three runs will be closed: Roc de Fer, Choucas and Eterlou
    • The 3 Valleys links will be unaffected and will open as usual.

In addition, the ski lifts used by the competitors will remain open to the public and skier tunnels have been built under the competition slopes to ensure the flow of recreational skiers is not interrupted.
